“Rise and Rise Again in Pursuit of Black Belt Excellence”

1.1 Welcome Message from Mrs. Kim

Hi! I’m Mrs. Kim — Owner, Chief Instructor, and a 4th Degree Black Belt at Crimson Sparrow Martial Arts (CSMA). Whether you’re a brand-new student or returning to continue your journey, you’re in the right place. CSMA is more than a class—it's a community of people training to be stronger, more focused, and more confident in every area of life.

At CSMA, we don’t hand out belts; we earn them. Some days will feel easy, others will challenge you—both are part of the process. Show up, give your best, listen to your instructors, and you will grow. We’re honored to train alongside you.

Welcome to the CSMA Family—let’s rise together, one class, one goal, one belt at a time.

— Mrs. Kim

1.2 Your Martial Arts Journey

Your training develops the body, mind, and spirit. Here’s what to expect as you progress:

  • Physical Development: Improved strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and endurance.
  • Discipline & Focus: Clear goals, consistent practice, and respect for your instructors and training partners.
  • Confidence & Control: Calm under pressure and resilient when challenges appear.
  • Respect & Core Values: Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit—on and off the mat.
  • Progress & Patience: Advancement happens through effort and consistency, not speed—trust the process.
  • Safety & Self-Defense: Train with control in a safe environment while learning practical skills to protect yourself.

Your First 30 Days at CSMA

  1. Attend consistently (ideally 2x/week) and check in at the front Ipad each visit.
  2. Review the Resource Page for uniforms, testing cycles, and CSMA Shop.
  3. Ask questions—our instructors are here to help with technique, mindset, and goals.
  4. Celebrate small wins: new skills, better balance, sharper combos, improved focus.
  5. Download and login to our member app.

Pro tip: The students who grow the fastest show up consistently and listen actively.

1.3 The CSMA Member App

Simple expectations that help every student succeed.

2.1 Checking In

  • Check in at the front desk iPad before every class—this tracks attendance.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early to be ready when class starts.
  • Attendance goal: 16+ classes per testing cycle to qualify for belt promotion.

2.2 Tuition & Payments

  • Tuition is due the same date each month; auto-withdrawal preferred.
  • ACH saves card fees. Cash payments are due 2 days before the due date.
  • Need flexibility? Ask about weekly billing or biweekly.
  • Pause/Cancel: Provide 30 days’ verbal or written notice. Without notice, one more month will process (you may continue training during that period or return within 3 months without penalty).

2.3 Attendance & Schedule

  • Recommended training: 2x/week for steady progress.
  • If training 1x/week, typical test readiness is every ~20 weeks (unless instructor approval or 3 private lessons).
  • Missed a class? Make it up within the same week in any appropriate class.

  • View CSMA Class Schedule

2.4 Holidays & Closings

  • We operate on a 48-week schedule (4 weeks reserved for holidays, events, or instructor training).
  • We follow Sapulpa Public Schools for major closures and will notify by text, Facebook, and posted notices at CSMA.
  • Weather or event updates are always texted—keep notifications enabled.

2.5 Vacation Guidelines

We understand that families travel and take breaks throughout the year. The following vacation guidelines help you stay on track with training while keeping your membership active and in good standing.

Important: All students must fill out the Vacation Form before taking time off from training (Includes Short trips). This helps us plan for testing, attendance tracking, and instructor scheduling.

View Vacation Form

  • Short Trips (1–2 Weeks): No need to pause membership. You can make up missed classes before or after your trip — or schedule a private lesson to review material.
  • Extended Absence (3 Weeks to 3 Months): Memberships may be placed on pause for approved extended absences. Before your membership is paused, the tuition for the month you plan to return must be paid in advance to reserve your spot. When you come back, training will resume without interruption, using that prepaid month.
  • Long-Term Absence (Over 3 Months): If your break exceeds three months, a startup fee will be required upon return to re-enroll and restart your membership.
  • Summer Vacations: Keep your skills sharp! Bring your uniform along and practice patterns or stretches — consistency keeps your progress strong.
  • Testing Eligibility: Students returning from vacation should attend at least two full weeks of classes before testing to ensure readiness. Students must still complete a minimum of 16 total classes per cycle to qualify for belt testing. Each private class counts as two regular classes toward attendance. If you’re short on attendance, you can schedule a private class at the front desk to make up missed sessions.
  • Communication is Key: Let us know your travel dates — it helps us plan ahead and support your training goals.

Pro tip: Notify the front desk — we’ll help you stay on track with attendance goals.

Or visit the front desk to browse in person or place special orders.

3.2 Uniform & Gear Requirements

  • All students must wear CSMA-approved uniforms with patch during class.
  • Uniforms should be clean, wrinkle-free, and fitted properly — they represent pride and respect.
  • Sparring gear is required once students reach Green Belt. Lower ranks (White–Sr. Yellow) may train with optional gear as approved by the instructor.
  • Always bring your belt and water bottle to class.
  • Label all gear with your name — lost gear is common among younger students.
  • Replacement gear must be ordered through CSMA to ensure consistency and safety standards.

Uniform Care Tips

  • Wash regularly, Use folding outline in booklet.
  • Do not bleach; it weakens the fibers and fades logos.
  • Fold neatly or hang after every class to maintain respect and presentation.

Testing is not about passing — it’s about growth, perseverance, and demonstrating your personal best.

4.1 Stripes & Belt Testing

Stripes help track your progress through each training cycle. They mark effort and understanding, but true readiness for testing comes from skill, consistency, and attitude.

  • Each 10-week cycle includes 6–7 stripes representing specific skills (patterns, sparring, self-defense, etc.).
  • Testing occurs every 10 weeks (20 weeks for Black Levels).
  • Students must attend 16+ classes per cycle to qualify for testing.
  • Testing includes:
    • Patterns
    • Sparring or Sparring Sets
    • Self-Defense
    • Pattern Meaning(s)
    • Board Breaking (when applicable)
  • Testing fees cover belts, boards, and event logistics.
  • If not ready, the student may receive a “No Change” — not a failure, just more time to prepare.

Make-up tests are allowed with instructor approval and include a 50% additional fee.

4.2 Testing Resources & Belt Information

Use the links below to access detailed testing requirements and forms for each belt level. These documents are designed to guide your preparation and clarify what to expect at each stage of your journey.

Note: For detailed requirements for each colored rank, please refer to the Member App.

Testing Philosophy

Testing is a celebration of your journey — not a comparison to others. At CSMA, we focus on progress, not perfection. Each rank earned is proof of perseverance and dedication, not just performance on one day.

4.3 Board Breaking Policy

  • Red Belt and higher must successfully break boards to pass testing.
  • If a student does not break their board, they must complete the 1,000 Kick Journey before reattempting.
  • Black Belt candidates must complete their required breaks to earn rank.
  • Board breaking teaches focus, confidence, and commitment — it’s more than strength; it’s about precision and control.

Pro Tip

The secret to board breaking is proper technique, focus, and belief. Visualize success before you strike — your body will follow where your mind leads.

Compete, learn, and grow — take advantage of extra opportunities beyond regular classes.

  • Local & Regional Tournaments: Patterns, point/continuous sparring, team events.

  • How to Join: Watch texts/Facebook for dates and registration links, or ask at the front desk.
  • Preparation: Attend prep classes, review belt requirements, and confirm your gear is CSMA-approved.

Pro tip: Set a simple goal for each event (e.g., “clean pattern stances,” “score with a backfist,” “control distance”).

5.2 More Ways to Train

  • Adult Taekwon-Do: Build strength, discipline, and community with peers.
  • KICK.FITT Cardio Kickboxing: High-energy bag training for any fitness level.

5.3 Becoming an Instructor

Our Instructor Development Program gives dedicated students the opportunity to grow as leaders and role models within the CSMA community. Trainee Instructors learn how to assist classes, guide younger students, and develop valuable teaching and leadership skills that extend far beyond martial arts.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be at least 10 years old.
  • Must hold a minimum rank of Green Belt.
  • Must show consistent discipline, respect, and work ethic in class.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership qualities and a positive attitude.

We host instructor training sessions each year, and students will be notified when applications open. If there’s enough interest, we may schedule a Trainee Instructor Course at any time during the year.
